Malcolm and I got home yesterday afternoon, after a few days in Scotland staying near Stirling. The weather has been very kind to us, even on Tuesday with a forecast of heavy rain and storm-force winds, we headed for the east coast and managed to find some sunshine and blue skies.
On Monday, we set out for a walk around Loch Lubnaig to the north of Callander. We had been impressed with the area following a television programme some time ago, about old railway walks and wanted to see it for ourselves.
First impressions of the Loch were promising.
The Loch is about 146ft deep at most and just over 3 miles long. It is overlooked from the north by the imposing summit of Ben Vorlich at 3231ft high (see above picture) and to the west by Ben Ledi at 2881ft.
Further on, we approached the small town of Strathyre and it was from here that we set out on our walk down the western side of the Loch following the old Callendar and Oban railway line. Climbing some way above the water offered an excellent view looking east.
There is a rumour that an old car lies in the depths of the Loch, but who's it is and how it got there is another question.
From within the trees, we had the impression we were being watched! It turned out we were right - our every move was being scrutinised by this little Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris).
